Mitchell Shire 2010 National Tree Day Activities

01 Aug 2010

As part of the Environment Strategy, Mitchell Shire Council has supported

National Tree Day Activities in the shire since 2001 by providing native plants,

guards and stakes to the community and schools for planting on public land.

The results of these planting days can be seen in many of our shire's

communities.

This year National Tree Day will be held on Sunday 1 August 2010, with

Schools Tree Day taking place on Friday 30 July 2010. Council has prepared

several community planting sites including:

  • Apex Park Kilmore on the Kilmore Creek
  • Taylors Creek, Wallan between Lisa Place and King William Drive
  • The Common at Broadford (school planting)
  • Goulburn River Walking Trail in Seymour
  • Dry Creek, Say G'day Trail, in Wandong-Heathcote Junction

Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Melbourne urges you to "Get your hands dirty and

contribute to local wildlife habitat, offset your greenhouse emissions and be a

part of a local community event by joining in at one of our many community tree

planting sites".

The Mayor added "It is always nice to be able to look at a planting site several

years down the track and say I was part of that planting day".

Support from the corporate sector will be welcomed as well. Business or

corporations interested in participating in an event can contact Council's

Environmental Programs Department.

To find out where your nearest community planting site is or to register your
